Hetti is a 3 year old African Pygmy Hedgehog. Hetti loves to eat cat food, cooked chicken and mealworms. Her favourite place to be is in her cosy fleece snuggle sack. She loves to run on her wheel at night and loves cuddling with the kids.
The domesticated African pygmy hedgehog is the most popular hedgehog species to be kept as pets in the UK, and is only about a quarter of the size of our native European Hedgehogs. Various species of hedgehogs have been domesticated as long ago as the Romans, but more recently they have become popular as pets again and African hedgehogs domesticated since the 1980’s.
In the wild, African pygmy hedgehogs can be found across the steppes, grasslands and savanna of West, central and East Africa.
