Mr Fluffy Head is a very fluffy guinea pig and he is 3 months old.
Sadly there are more male guinea pigs in rescue centres as they are more likely to fall out when kept in boar pairs that are not well matched, and they are social animals that do not like to live alone. So Mr Fluffy Head has had the snip and we have adopted him, he now has 2 wives who do rather boss him about! They live in an enclosure in the lounge and come out for exercise and cuddles. His favourite foods are lettuce and pea flakes, and his favourite place to hide is in his box full of hay. We are unsure what type Mr Fluffy Head is but he does appear to be one of the long haired breeds, as his hair is getting longer and longer!
Guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) have been domesticated for 3000 years, originally for meat. They were introduced as pets in the UK in Victorian times, and many differently types have been selectively bred. They no longer have a direct equivalent in the wild, though related species live in the savannahs of South America.
