Baby Plan – photograph all baby’s first year

My baby plan is all about capturing the stages in the first year as baby changes. Life with a newborn is a fantastic journey of discovery, from meeting them for the very first time to those first smiles, first steps and first independence. Booking a set of 3 or 4 sessions has several advantages

I will contact you to remind you to book your session a month or so before the times decided – ensuring that you remember to fit this into your busy schedule with baby and that I have time in my schedule for you.
You get a discount over the usual price of separately booked sessions.
You get a set of matching images to remember your baby’s first year

4 portraits growing up

So what stages do I photograph?

Newborn

The very best time for newborn photographs is between 6 and 14 days old, when baby is still tiny and relatively sleepy. At this session I will capture portraits of your newborn clothed or unclothed, close up of details and portraits of the whole family with their new addition at this special time.

Three months / expressions

The first 3 months produce the greatest changes, from a newborn who couldn’t even focus on your face a 3 month old baby is watching everything and exploring the movement of their hands and feet. Smiles and giggles and funny expressions are likely at this age.

Six months / moving

Beginning to get the hang of their bodies at this age babies may be lifting their heads and looking around, perhaps sitting and some even crawling.

One year / standing

At one year your baby is growing up! Every baby is different but common milestones are standing, cruising or even walking, and they are certainly going to love interacting with parents. We can also include special birthday shots such as a cake smash to celebrate this time.

Every baby is different so you can choose to fine tune these sessions to capture your little one’s milestones – your sessions can be used spread over up to 15 months.

This is why I love photographing families outdoors. Children move, explore and show their personalities when they have space around them. A walk through the spring flowers often turns into the most natural moments - curious little hands reaching for petals, big smiles, and parents watching it all unfold.
These are the stages that pass so quickly, and photographs help hold onto them.

Spring has properly arrived so this week I went to visit one of my favourite places - Kew Gardens.

The camellias are blooming, plum blossom is opening on the trees, and the first daffodils are bright across the grass. After months of bare branches and grey skies, it suddenly feels like everything is waking up again.

It is one of the loveliest times for family photographs.

I always love this moment in the year. The light changes, the colours return, and families start wanting to get outside together.

Children naturally want to run around when the sun is out!

Spring gives you movement, colour, and a sense of the season your family is living in right now.

And years from now, when the children are bigger, those photographs will still hold a piece of this stage of life. Blossom overhead, daffodils at their feet, and everyone together in the middle of it.

They are not meant to perform for the camera.
They are meant to explore.
To wander.
To hold your hand one minute and run the other way the next.
To laugh loudly and sometimes cry just as loudly.
That is childhood.
When children feel secure and connected to you, that is when the real moments appear. Not when they are told to sit still. Not when everyone is asked to smile at the same time.
If they run off, we follow.
If they wobble, we take a moment.
If they need a cuddle, that cuddle often becomes the photograph.
The more pressure there is to get the “perfect” shot, the more everyone tightens up. When you let things unfold, something far better appears. Your family exactly as you are.
You do not need to keep correcting them.
You just need to be with them.
I will capture the connection.

A wildlife rescuer who sometimes spends time cleaning pigeon poo while helping out at a local wildlife hospital.
A scuba diver who enjoys pretending to be a fish.
A scientist at heart. I studied microbiology and computer science before photography.
And despite living in London for 25 years… I’m still a northerner.

It’s all about celebrating the stage your family is at now, so the images and the experience will be a little different for each age family. Bigger kids we will cover more ground and maybe spend more time warming them up - smaller kids it may be all about trying to keep them still for 3 seconds!

But there is a set of photos that we will get for each family

3) Action shots together. After all this is how real life looks - always moving and finding stuff to do. Laughing together and playing with siblings. It seems so commonplace now, but soon you will smile to look back at how they were little!

2) Close ups of each kid. I’ll zoom in on those cute eyes, and encourage them to strike a post on a log for their own indivdual spotlights.

1) The whole family together. No-one missing behind the camera! Yes this one will involve a little bit of posing but I’ll guide you all the way. Sometimes it’s getting everyone to sit down, sometimes it’s more a quick ‘scoop the kids up and look this way’ shot. We’ll do this at a few stunning spots so you have a variety to choose from.
