Beautiful old buildings, interesting people and dramatic light. A lovely combination for event photography.
I recently photographed the British Antique Furniture Restorers’ Association AGM and tour at the National Trust’s Petworth House.
Historic buildings don’t tend to have uniform, bright lighting, and that’s part of their charm. Light streaming through windows, deep shadows and pools of light falling across a room can create atmosphere that you simply wouldn’t get in a brightly lit conference venue.
The challenge, and the fun, is working with that light to capture both the character of the surroundings and the people bringing the event to life. The most interesting photos have a little bit of shadow, drama and mystery.
