Kid’s Farm tour – the video

Over the hills in Cornwall there is a magical holiday farm. Have you ever been to the same place on holiday 7 times?  This is the only holiday our family has ever repeated so often!

Where is it? I’m not sure I should tell, in case you all book it up before I do!

And what is the most magical part? It’s the feed run every morning where all the children get to tour the farm feeding all the animals – sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, deer and of course (my favourite) the guinea pigs.

So I’ll tell my secret – check out Coombe Mill family farm holidays and watch the kids farm tour video for a taste of the daily magical farm tour.

We’re all going on the feed run today – the action starts with the children piling onto the tractor trailer and driving over the ancient stone bridge across the River Camel, down the farm track to the first stop at the sheep.  Here the children can hand feed the sheep and also their friend and guardian the alpaca.  Did you know that alpacas guard sheep against attack by foxes (or wolves)?

Across the track to the pig pen, where the pigs enjoy their pig nuts, with a topping of all the food scraps collected by the campers yesterday – recycling in action.

And then the chickens – and ducks, geese and guinea fowl.  Along with their enthusiastic seed gobbling they have also laid eggs to find – some in the hen house (right place) and some in the stinging nettles (not so obvious).

In the small barn are two of the newest arrivals, baby goats just a few days old and enjoying a bit of shelter with their mums, and we go for some cuddles with the kids (the human ones cuddling the goat ones that is).

Hop back on the tractor for a trip round the lake, full of fish if the campers want to try their hand at fishing later.  Now we visit the extra fluffy teddy sheep, his friend the pig, and all the grown up goats all eager for their handfuls of food.

The deer are not so tame, they watch cautiously as we scatter food, and only the brave will approach closely until the gate swings closed after the visitors.  Then we get a good view as they all spring down from the trees to eat.

And last but not least – the guinea pig barn!  These balls of fluff run free in this huge barn, and enjoy being brought fresh grass and dandelion leaves.   You may have heard I’m a fan of guinea pigs, and if you have caught the bug there are often guinea pigs that can be adopted to start your own petting farm at home!

I hope you enjoyed sampling the magic on the kids farm tour video.

Here are the family behind the farm!  Anya and Emma run the Coombe Mill farm holiday hamlet in North Cornwall, and they also have twins in the family, so while I was there we did a family photoshoot for the unique twins project.
